Hill Saves the best for Last

Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s Jordan Hill recorded his best finish at this years’ Australian Supercross Championship with a fantastic fifth place finish in the SX2 final on Sunday afternoon.

Hill showed good speed all weekend but poor starts let him down on Saturday Night but he returned more determined than ever on Sunday and in front of a big crowd at Qudos Bank Arena and at the biggest stage in Australian racing, the Aus- X Open, Hill charged to fifth place in a confidence boosting performance.

Jordan qualified for the 250cc (SX2) after a wire to wire win in his semi- final that gave him a good gate selection for the final where he pushed his bike in between US star, Gavin Faith and champion leader, Hayden Mellross and felt right at home in the big league.

When the gates dropped, Hill was mid pack but wanting to move forward. He made some passes and got into sixth place, then on the final lap, a front runner withdrew from the race and at the same time, Hill made a lunge to pass the rider in front of him. Had the pass been successful, he would have claimed fourth, but instead took fifth, just a bike length behind the fourth placed rider.

The strong final round finish sees Hill round out the championship in eighth place, a good result for an U19 rider in his first professional championship season.

“I feel like the last couple of rounds I have been riding ok but just not getting a good result,” Hill explains. “Last week in Avalon I was inside the top five for the first six laps before I made a mistake and stalled the bike and then my speed was pretty good on Saturday but my starts were terrible.

“I got a good gate for the semi and I just wanted to get a good start so bad. I came out of the first turn in front and was able to stay in front the whole race and it was good to know that I can do it.

“The main event was hectic in the opening laps. There are 12 riders on that small track and there are bikes and bodies going everywhere. I stayed out of trouble, got a few guys as the race went on and then nearly got Cachia right at the end. I had no idea where I was but I wanted to just keep riding.

“It’s a great way to finish the year and the team was pretty happy. With Mitch being out with injury, they kept everything going for me and I thank Cory and Mike for their dedication,” Hill ends.

That brings the 2016 season to a close for the Yamalube Yamaha Racing Team.
